We are delighted to tell you Clever Cloud now accepts SEPA Direct Debit payment. We already accept different payment methods:
  • Credit card (powered by Stripe)
  • Paypal
  • Bank transfer: Clever Cloud accepts international bank transfers. This option will generate a reference that you will have to add to your bank transfer, as a note.
and now we have just added:
  • SEPA Direct Debit

Why should you care?

SEPA Direct Debit allows you to pay invoices without getting limited by payment card ceiling. You only have to put your IBAN in the form. Then click on "I AGREE" and we will be able to debit your bank account after issuing your monthly invoice. Agreeing to the mandate means you allow Clever Cloud to debit your account only two days after you get the debit notification. This notification contains the invoice and is sent on the first day of each month. We first try to charge you on the 5th of this month. Would the first debit fail, new attempts will occur on the 10th, 15th and 20th of that month. You are entitled to a refund under the terms and conditions of your agreement with your bank. A refund must be claimed within eight weeks, starting from the date on which your account was debited. Do you know that hosting is one of the nastiest business out there? Hardware, bandwidth suck up huge amounts of money and energy. But some hosting companies want to give it for free, forever. And people keep asking me “do you have a free plan?”

The problem is quite basic. Hosting the web's "hello world" applications for zero money is not a sustainable business model. Most of all, we should really ask ourselves: is it really useful to humanity? The problem with free offerings is that it’s killing product value: nobody really takes care of a free product.

At Clever Cloud, we have built a great platform.
We’ve worked with developers to help them build great applications, be more efficient, and sustain huge traffic surges without stress.

Our job is not to host unfinished side projects.

Hosting the web's "hello world" applications for zero money is not a sustainable business model. Most of all, we should really ask ourselves: is it really useful to humanity?

Since free tier costs money, who really pays for it? Loyal and paying customers, of course. And that’s just not fair. I prefer to say: our price is the right price. We are not making you pay for a poor marketing idea. If you are not ok with our price, don't worry.

We can always agree on something: just email us at sales@clever-cloud.com.

But the problem about free tier goes even deeper: this poor marketing strategy is lowering the overall customer perception of PaaS. What doesn’t have a price doesn’t have any value, and the idea that PaaS provides no value is a deeply entrenched misconception. This is one of the reasons the PaaS market has taken so long to emerge.

Can Clever Cloud ever be free?

Sure, we help open-source projects, charity, media and other projects by giving them free hosting. If you think your project deserves it, just send me an email: quentin.adam@clever-cloud.com.

Well, we're thrilled to announce that Clever Cloud accepts Bitcoin.

Thanks to its rising popularity, this new payments solution has been integrated to Clever Cloud with the help of Bitpay (https://bitpay.com), the leading Bitcoin payment processor, used by famous companies like Zynga (with FarmVille) and <Wordpress.com>.

Although this currency has been described as controversial, Bitcoin is more and more used (up to $200M of daily transactions) and adopted by major economic actors. Clever Cloud aims to help the emmergence of new currency types by this Bitcoin integration.

One year after our fund raising led by Kima Ventures (Xavier Niel's investments fund), the Clever Cloud service has evolved quite a lot, by integrating the support of 5 new programming languages and 3 more database services, making it the most technologically advanced PaaS.

So now, as services and runtimes, we are adding a new payment method in order make Clever Cloud even more universal in term of technology and currency.
