Grist Labs, creators of the modern, open-source data tool, and Clever Cloud, a leading European Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud service provider, today announced a strategic partnership to deliver secure, sovereign hosting and streamlined distribution of Grist services across Europe.

This collaboration paves the way for European public institutions and private organizations to access Grist’s powerful spreadsheet-database, fully hosted on Clever Cloud’s compliance-ready infrastructure. The partnership directly addresses regulatory needs around compliance with European regulation, EU digital sovereignty, and France’s HDS and SecNumCloud standards. Notably, France’s Direction Interministérielle du Numérique (DINUM) already uses and recommends Grist internally and across public agencies, positioning it as a trusted open-source replacement for spreadsheets that adds the robust relational structure of databases.

Through this alliance, Clever Cloud becomes the preferred European hosting partner for Grist. Clients will benefit from:

  • Direct deployment of dedicated Grist instances through a Clever Cloud Marketplace Grist add-on, enabling a frictionless deployment of secure and managed services.
  • Community and Enterprise versions of Grist, satisfying the needs of all types of organizations of any size.
  • Choice of hosting models: public cloud, on-premise, or even air-gapped environments: all operated on Clever Cloud’s sovereign cloud.
  • Certified compliance, including support for France’s HDS certification and SecNumCloud-qualified environments.
  • Premium support options and access to Clever Cloud’s network of Managed Service Providers (MSPs).

Building Sustainable Open Source Through Technical and Business Synergy

This partnership is rooted in a shared commitment to the long-term sustainability of open source software and the promotion of business models that helps the sustainability of open source private stakeholders. Grist Labs and Clever Cloud are combining their strengths to deliver a robust, scalable deployment model for Grist, one that balances technical excellence with commercial viability.

Clever Cloud is not simply contributing to the ecosystem : it has made the deliberate decision to actively explore and implement models that help fund and sustain open source maintenance and innovation. This includes aligning infrastructure services with open standards, fostering a community of trusted partners, and supporting business models that ensure maintainers and contributors can thrive.
Commercially, the collaboration combines license resale and revenue-sharing mechanisms, creating a sustainable economic model that supports open source adoption at scale across both public and private sectors.

Joint Presence at VivaTech

To mark the launch of this partnership, Clever Cloud will showcase Grist running on SecNumCloud-qualified infrastructure at VivaTech, Europe’s premier startup and technology event. The announcement will include live product demonstrations, highlighting the platform’s capabilities and commitment to secure, sovereign cloud deployment.

Sōzu is the reverse proxy that sits in front of every application running on Clever Cloud. K3s vs K8s: What Are the Differences and Which One Should You Choose in 2026?

Kubernetes has become the standard for container orchestration. But depending on your infrastructure constraints (limited resources, edge computing, IoT, or large-scale enterprise clusters), the distribution you choose can radically change the operational experience. K3s and K8s (upstream Kubernetes) address different needs, even though both share the same CNCF-certified foundation.
